Hailing from the west of Ireland, Maria Kelly is an alternative-folk artist whose music is layered with deeply personal and poignant experiences. Growing up surrounded by the music of Joni Mitchell & Lisa Hannigan, paired with influences like Daughter & Lucy Rose, she formed a unique and delicate sound that has garnered over a million streams worldwide.
In 2015, Maria began working with producer Matt Harris (Veta Records, HAVVK, Sive), leading to a number of critically acclaimed releases such as 'Stitches' and 'Torn Into Two'. Accompanied by shows across Europe supporting the likes of James Vincent McMorrow, KT Tunstall and Paul Noonan (Bell X1), Maria quickly became known for her heart-wrenching live performances, unassuming nature, and a 'pin-drop' vocal that is impossible to ignore. Maria's work has continued to gain momentum internationally, rallying support from Mahogany, KALTBLUT and The Line Of Best Fit along the way.
After laying a foundation in the Irish music scene, Maria relocated to Berlin in June of last year, a life-changing move which inspired her four-track EP, ‘notes to self’. It is a delicate collection of songs exploring themes of leaving home and the comfort and discomfort of finding familiarity from within.
In the lead up to the 'notes to self' release in December 2018, Maria joined All The Luck In The World on a month long European tour, followed by her debut TV appearance on Other Voices. Maria finished up the year supporting Villagers at two sold out shows in Ireland, and is currently touring with Paul Noonan, promoting the EP and testing out some new material.
In 2018, Maria featured on RTE2's 'Other Voices' alongside Villagers, Sam Fender, Julien Baker, Little Green Cars, and Maverick Sabre. She was invited to perform at both 2018 'Imagining Ireland' shows in the National Concert Hall, Dublin & the Barbican, London, alongside Paul Noonan (Bell X1), Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister, Loah, and Mango & Mathman. Maria was the winner of the IMRO Other Room Open Call to appear on Other Voices in 2017. Amongst other live highlights, she has supported the likes of KT Tunstall, James Vincent McMorrow, Mel C, Paul Noonan, Marc Cohn, and Billie Marten.
